Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to track activity on our website and hold certain information. Cookies are files with a small amount of data that may include an anonymous unique identifier.
Types of Cookies We Use
Every service named below loads and starts collecting as soon as a page on this website opens — before you answer the notice at the bottom of the screen, and whether or not you ever answer it. That notice tells you this is happening; it does not hold anything back until you click. Nothing on this page waits for your permission first. What you can do is opt out afterwards, which stops collection from that point on; the “Your Cookie Choices” section below explains how, and is honest about what opting out cannot undo.
Essential — always active.
- Remember your cookie choice, keep forms working, and support page navigation. These do not track you across other websites.
Loaded on every visit.
These load immediately on every page of this website, before and regardless of any choice you make on the notice:
- Google Tag Manager — the container that loads most of the measurement tools listed here.
- Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager — tells us in aggregate how visitors find and move through the site.
- Google Ads, loaded by the same Google tag as Google Analytics — advertising measurement and remarketing. Described in full in its own section below.
- Microsoft Clarity — records how pages are actually used, including mouse movement, clicks and scrolling. Described in full in its own section below.
- A country look-up — Google Tag Manager sends your IP address to the service api.country.is to work out which country you are browsing from, and stores the answer in a cookie in your browser for 24 hours.
- HubSpot — our live chat, plus HubSpot’s own analytics, form tracking and advertising-pixel component. Described in full in its own section below.
HubSpot — chat, analytics, form tracking, and an advertising pixel.
Our live chat is powered by HubSpot, and it is how many visitors first reach a person here. So that chat is available straight away, we load HubSpot’s script on every page of this website as a functional tool — immediately, before and regardless of your cookie choice. Opting out does not stop it.
That one HubSpot script does more than open a chat window. On every page view it loads:
- HubSpot Conversations — the chat widget itself.
- HubSpot analytics — recognises returning visitors and links a form submission to the pages that visitor viewed.
- HubSpot form tracking — records how forms on our pages are filled in and submitted.
- HubSpot’s advertising-pixel component — HubSpot’s own ad-measurement script, which can in turn trigger a Meta (Facebook) tracking request from your browser while you are on our pages.
Together these set HubSpot cookies in your browser and send HubSpot — and, through the advertising-pixel component, Meta — your IP address, the pages you view on this site, and your activity on them. HubSpot is also the system that holds our customer records. If you would rather not be tracked by HubSpot at all, opting out on this website will not stop it; you would need to block HubSpot’s scripts in your browser or with a browser extension.
Microsoft Clarity — starts recording as soon as you arrive, and stops if you opt out.
Microsoft Clarity makes a recording of how each page is used, so we can see where the site is confusing. That recording captures mouse movement, clicks and taps, scrolling, how far down a page you get, and how you interact with what is on it, along with the pages you visit and your IP address. All of it is sent to and stored by Microsoft, and is covered by Microsoft’s privacy statement. Clarity also sets its own cookies in your browser as the page loads.
Two things about the timing, and we would rather say both plainly than only the comfortable one: recording starts as soon as a page loads, before you answer the cookie notice, and if you opt out we stop recording from that point on. Opting out reloads the page immediately so that nothing further is captured, and Clarity then does not load at all on any later page you view in that browser, until you change your choice.
What was already recorded before you opted out has already been sent to Microsoft. Opting out stops what happens next; it does not reach back and delete what was captured in the moments before you clicked. If you want to ask us about a recording, use the contact details in the “Contact Us” section below.
Mailchimp — only when you send us the newsletter form.
Mailchimp runs our mailing list. No Mailchimp script runs on this website and no Mailchimp cookie is set by browsing it: the “Let’s Get to Work!” email signup at the bottom of the page is a plain form that sends your email address to Mailchimp only when you submit it. Our contact form and our “Book a Discovery Call” requests go to HubSpot, not Mailchimp.
Google Ads — advertising measurement and remarketing, on every page.
We advertise with Google, and the Google tag that Google Tag Manager loads for Google Analytics also reports to our Google Ads account. It runs on every page of this website, from the moment the page opens, alongside Google Analytics. Two things it does that Google Analytics on its own does not:
- Advertising measurement. When you arrive from one of our ads and then contact us, it tells Google Ads which ad and which click led to that enquiry.
- Remarketing. It records that this browser visited pages on this website so that TVG Tech ads can be shown to you again later on other websites and on Google’s own properties, such as Search and YouTube.
To do that it sets Google advertising cookies in your browser — including one named “_gcl_au” — and your browser makes requests to Google’s advertising domains, among them googleadservices.com, googlesyndication.com and doubleclick.net. Those requests carry your IP address and the page you are on. Google acts as our advertising partner for this, and its use of the data is covered by Google’s policy on how it uses data from sites that use its services.
This is switched off by the same opt-out as everything else on this page: the Google Ads tag rides on Google Tag Manager, so if you opt out, Google Tag Manager does not load and neither does it. You can also turn off personalised advertising in your own Google account, at myadcenter.google.com, which applies wherever you are signed in to Google rather than only on this website.
The Meta (Facebook) pixel — ours is switched off.
TVG Tech does not load a Meta (Facebook) pixel of its own on this website: it is switched off, and no Meta pixel code of ours is present on any page. That is a separate matter from HubSpot’s advertising-pixel component described above, which is not ours and which can trigger a Meta request from your browser. Both of those statements are true at the same time.
Your Cookie Choices
On this website. The notice that appears on your first visit carries an Opt out control, and the Cookie Settings control at the bottom of every page reopens that notice so you can opt out, or opt back in, at any time afterwards.
What opting out does. The page reloads immediately, and Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics, the Google Ads tag it carries, Microsoft Clarity and the country look-up all stop loading — on that page and on every page you open afterwards in the same browser, until you change your choice. HubSpot is not covered by that control and keeps loading either way, as described above. Your choice is stored in your browser for this site, so clearing this site’s stored data also resets it, and a different browser or device has its own choice.
What opting out does not do. Because these services start on arrival, anything collected between the page opening and your clicking — the page you landed on, where you came from, your device and IP address, and for Microsoft Clarity the recording of that page up to the moment you clicked — has already been sent to Google and Microsoft. Opting out stops collection from that point on. It does not recall or delete what was already transmitted. To ask us about information we hold about you, use the “Contact Us” section below.
In your browser. Most web browsers are set to accept cookies by default. If you prefer, you can usually set your browser to remove or reject cookies. Please note that removing or rejecting cookies could affect the availability and functionality of our website.
With the services directly. Google provides a browser add-on that opts you out of Google Analytics on every website you visit.
